Perhaps you already have heard a lot of times about an RF device. But what do you think it really is? What are the benefits it can give to users and to the society as a whole? When someone such as a friend or child asks you what does this thing means, how will you explain? Well, you do not need to be an expert in order to understand and be able to relate to others the meaning of the subject. The term simply stands for radio frequency. So the whole thing could mean just anything, any gadget, tool, or machine that is equipped with this unique capability to receive and transmit radio frequency signals in order to serve a purpose. Its common components are a tiny chip that has the capability to carry data and an antenna that catches radio frequency signals.

A radio frequency device works similarly to an ordinary bar code scanner that is used in a point of sale terminal in shopping malls and grocery stores. Or to a swiping slot or pad that scans a magnetic strip that is located at the back of a credit card or an ATM card. The bar code scanner scans the bar code and get the data and display the information on the monitor. A credit card has to be swiped or inserted into a slot for the machine to read and display information. In the same way, a radio frequency device has to scan the radio frequency ID to get and display the information, only that this type of gadget is able to perform far better than what the ordinary gadgets can do.

A radio frequency device can do what ordinary scanners cannot. For example, with a bar code scanner you need to scan each bar code that is located at the back of grocery items in order to get the total amount. This can take longer and sometimes complicated especially when the bar codes have not been well printed or not clearly visible. The scanner cannot read the data. In this case, the cashier has to manually input all the lengthy digits using the computer keyboard in order to get correct reading. But with the RF device, you can just put all items in the bag and have it scanned once then you get the total.
